Patent Number 7,638,962 Issues - Hatch Cover Manager to Michael Cardwell. The Hatch Cover Manager project is a good example of a successful product conceived by an inventor working within his chosen industry. Mike Cardwell has extensive experience in roof systems and roof safety equipment that he provides to customers through his company, Roof Tech Inc. His expertise alerted him to some serious defects in the state of the art, defects he set out to address with his inventive Hatch Cover Manager. Sabre helped Mike reduce the invention to practice with a 3D solid model incorporating an array of elements and features. We filed an early provisional application to protect his rights during development, then followed with a non-provisional application. Prosecution was complicated by the need to educate examiners to the subtleties of the roof hatch functions, but in the end a broad set of claims were allowed. Roof Tech is currently marketing the Hatch Cover Manager, and Mike is working on his next concept.
